British Council announce launch of IELTS scholarship awards


The British Council has announced the launch of its IELTS Scholarship Award for Indian students planning to study at universities overseas.

In line with its mission to promote the global sharing of knowledge and ideas, the Council would select eight students from India, each of whom would receive an award of Rs three lakh towards the cost of tuition fees, a British Council press release said here today.

Eligible applicants would have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test score. IELTS is the world?s leading English language test designed to evaluate ability to communicate in English for education, immigration and professional accreditation worldwide, it said.

The award winners would begin a full time post graduate programme at any overseas university which uses IELTS as a part of its admission requirements and as a reliable measure of English language proficiency.

IELTS was accepted by over 6,000 institutions in 125 countries. In the US alone, over 2,500 institutions and programmes accepted IELTS.
